About Pet Food Project
The Pet Food Project is Rochester’s first locally owned and operated full service pet food deli. We specialize in locally sourced, all natural, raw dog and cat food. Small batches are tailor made to order depending on our customer’s preferences from an ever growing list of the freshest ingredients sourced from New York farms and small businesses. Our aim is to empower our customers to have the ability to choose what is best for their pets while at the same time empowering local farmers and small businesses.
We love our pets! But we also love all animals, that is why every cow, chicken, duck, rabbit and pig that is processed in our deli is not only raised locally, naturally and without antibiotics or hormones but they are also, above all else, raised humanely.
Being ambitious in our pursuit of high quality ingredients and unwavering in our belief that our pet food should be sourced locally and ethically, we quickly found that we needed to reach out for help. We are extremely fortunate and ever grateful to Head Water Food Hub (www.headwaterfoodhub.com) which is able to source a remarkable 95% of our ingredients for us from sustainable farms in our area. All of our fish is supplied by our personal friends at Feldman’s Seafood who are our single source for organic Faroe Island salmon and sustainably fished sardines (pay them a visit at the Rochester Public Market). We let these two local companies connect the dots of the farm-to-pet supply chain for us so that we can focus on what we do best.
At the Pet Food Project we give our customers the power to choose what is best for their pet. All of our ingredients are AAFCO recognized and follow proportions of the ancestral diet which replicates what a dog or cat would eat in the wild. Only meat, organs, bone, root vegetables, greens, seasonal fruits and fresh herbs. No fillers, no animal by products, no grains, no preservatives, no synthetic supplements and no dyes or food coloring. We use only local, ethically raised, hormone and antibiotic free, pastured meat, poultry and eggs and our local produce is grown as naturally as possible. So whatever ingredients you choose you can rest assured that you’ve made a healthy choice for the pet you love.
